Yaddo Gardens is a seriously magical location that dates back over a century. With lush flowers and towering forests, this location has spent years inspiring some of the greatest artists throughout American history, and now, it’s ready to help you write the next chapter of your love story. As a Saratoga Springs wedding photographer, I have gotten the chance to use this location for a session. Here’s what you can expect from a Yaddo Gardens wedding! 

About The Yaddo Gardens Wedding Venue

Yaddo Gardens is a historic spot born out of a tragic story. Spencer and Katrina Trask were wealthy New York socialites who spent each racing season in Saratoga. The garden served as a gift from Spencer to his wife after they lost their children. The two spent the rest of their days on philanthropic endeavors, having little money left at the end of their lives because of all their work. Today, the mansion and the gardens are a spot where artists of all kinds can stay for inspiration.

Details of the Grounds

Yaddo Gardens is a ceremony-only wedding space ideal for microweddings. They open the grounds each Friday to host ceremonies with up to 50 guests. The primary spot for hosting a wedding is at the base of the concrete steps. You will make your way through the iron gates down the hedge-lined aisle while your guests watch from the tiered lawn. Once you have finished with your vows, you can make your way through the gardens where you will find endless spots for your portraits!

Photography Opportunities

While we are talking about your wedding portraits, I would love to highlight some of my favorite Yaddo Gardens spots. I recently had the chance to shoot an engagement session in the Gardens, and let me tell you, they are downright stunning! The iron gates beneath the limestone archway are the perfect spot to exchange a kiss before making your way through the walkways. The fountains of the reflection pool will shine as a backdrop while the surrounding forest offers an untamed, nature-filled setting. There is also a long pergola brightened by the roses snaking through the columns. Trust me, it’s the perfect spot for wedding and engagement photos!

Wedding Details

Yaddo Gardens is pretty straightforward with what they offer. Because you will only have access to the gardens, there are no back-up indoor spaces, and you will not have access to indoor restrooms. I would recommend having a plan just in case the rain makes a cameo throughout your wedding forecast. They are donation-only and welcome couples of all backgrounds!

Engagement Session at Yaddo Gardens

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Nick and Greg at Yaddo Gardens in Saratoga for their engagement photo shoot. We enjoyed exploring the gardens, with their cute dog joining us for the adventure. Getting to know them and hearing about their upcoming wedding in May of 2025 was wonderful.
