Chic West Mountain Inn Wedding with Magical Photos
A wedding and lifestyle photographer located in Saratoga Springs, NY and serving the Capital Region, Adirondacks and Vermont.
Hi, I'm Sarah (she/they)
If you’re looking for a cozy wedding venue that celebrates Vermont’s beauty, the West Mountain Inn could be perfect for you. I photographed a magical rainy day wedding at this historic inn over the summer. These candid wedding photos preserve the energy of this joyful, lush summer celebration perfectly.
The West Mountain Inn feels like its own world. Built in 1809 as a farmhouse, it has been renovated while maintaining that nineteenth-century charm. The same family has operated it as an inn for over 30 years now. You can tell this place is well-loved! I think it’s one way they manage to balance country elegance with a cozy, homey atmosphere.
Anyone who loves the Vermont mountains will adore this property. You get access to 150 acres of beautiful gardens, fields, and woods. A lot of people choose to have their ceremony in The Meadow, which overlooks the Green Mountains.
The barn, built in 1900, is popular for receptions. It’s beautifully finished with warm oak and cedar planks.
With 14 guest rooms and three townhouses on the property, the West Mountain Inn can accommodate quite a few of your wedding guests. The inn offers wedding room rates that include a tasty breakfast.

A Chic Celebration for C and D
Getting married at the West Mountain Inn was not a tough decision for C and D. They’re very kind and caring humans bursting with creativity. C is actually a painter. Needless to say, they loved the gardens and epic views of the Green Mountains.
C and D didn’t go overboard with decor for their wedding. The inn and surrounding environment are so beautiful that they could keep things simple and modern. D wore a sleek strapless dress that could have looked at home in New York City as well as the foothills of Vermont.
We could tell pretty early on C and D’s wedding day that it would rain throughout the day. Everyone was so excited that they didn’t let the rain dampen their spirits. Instead C and D let themselves get swept up in the whimsy of the experience. They explored the gardens where leaves drooped heavily with raindrops and ran down gravel paths laughing beneath umbrellas.
Instead of having an outdoor ceremony, they set up the chuppah inside the inn. The West Mountain Inn’s wide windows still gave a good view of the greenery, so the ceremony had that sweet countryside atmosphere.
Candid Wedding Photos with Rainy Day Magic
From the start of the day to C and D’s exit, I focused on a balance of candid and gently posed photos. My photography style leans more documentary because I believe that it preserves the moments you’re going to want to remember most. The real moments matter. The emotions, movement, and memory at the core of these photos become the images you look back on for years.

Maybe you’re a little untraditional, a little witchy, a little wild. Maybe you don’t mind getting your dress a little dirty, running through a field, twirling in the rain, or feeling the earth beneath your feet as you say your vows.
Maybe you see beauty in contrast — light and shadow, color and mood, softness and grit. You don’t care about perfection; you care about how it feels.
That might mean walking down the aisle beneath towering pines, hiking to say your vows with Lake George stretching out below you, or stealing a quiet moment in a sun-drenched field, just the two of you. Maybe it’s a candlelit barn that’s seen a hundred years of stories before yours, its walls holding echoes of the past as you start something new.
Some places hold history. Some places hold energy. And some places feel like they were waiting just for you.
Some love stories glow. Others burn. Yours does both.
