Beautiful Salem Honeymoon Photoshoot on Film

Your honeymoon is a deep breath between chapters. It’s that sweet space after all the wedding planning and celebration when everything finally sinks in. You’re married. The whirlwind quiets, the love deepens, and you have the chance to be fully present with your partner. It’s an ideal time for a honeymoon photoshoot.

As a film wedding photographer, I’ve always believed that love deserves to be documented beyond your wedding day. A honeymoon photoshoot preserves the sweet, tender early days of your marriage. These images from my own honeymoon in Salem tell a story that’s intimate, unposed, and unique.

4 Reasons Why You Should Do a Honeymoon Photoshoot

There are so many reasons to book a honeymoon photoshoot. These are some of my favorite.

1. Preserve the romance of the newlywed phase.

There’s something really special about that time right after your wedding. You get to breathe a little more deeply and compare your favorite memories from the big day. It’s a great time to do a honeymoon photoshoot.

Your honeymoon is a more relaxed period than the time leading up to your wedding. This is your chance to stretch out the wedding fun without the stress.

2. Document a special trip with professional photos.

A lot of marriers use their honeymoon as the chance to take a trip they’ve been dreaming of for a long time – maybe their whole lives. Even if you’re not jetsetting around the Caribbean, you’re probably going somewhere beautiful and meaningful. Why not document that with a honeymoon photoshoot? Having professional photos will be a really special keepsake compared to the usual phone pics.

3. Get any portraits you missed on the wedding day.

No matter how much you plan, it’s possible that you’ll get to the other side of your wedding and realize you missed a photo you’d wanted. A honeymoon photoshoot gives you a chance to get any photos, solo or with your partner, that you really want.

4. You’re still looking fresh from the wedding.

If you got your hair cut or nails done for your wedding, you can get a few more professional photos done while you’re still feeling amazing. You get the chance to wear an outfit you adore, one that doesn’t necessarily make sense on your wedding day. It’s a great chance to express your personal style.

Documenting Our Witchy Honeymoon

In some ways, our honeymoon was just as exciting to me as our wedding. We headed to Salem, Massachusetts. I documented it all on film photography.

As a photographer and practicing witch, Salem offered me endless inspiration. Every historical marker, whimsical garden, and misty cemetery felt like an invitation to create art. And I did!

Film made so much sense for preserving our memories of Salem. It has a timelessness to it that connects that past and present. Like Salem, film is rooted in something deeper than what you see on the surface. Along with light and shadow, the images’ grain make the moments they document feel so close and tangible.

A few of my favorite things about these images are

  • The golden afternoon light casting long shadows
  • The stark angles of the architecture against the deep blue sky
  • The texture of stones and trees as they’re conveyed on the film

Most of all, I love that these photos preserve a really special time in our relationship. We got to soak up the glow of newlywed life in a place that we absolutely loved. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Now we have the photos to keep those memories and emotions alive.

Photographing Your Honeymoon on Film

Whether it’s a wedding or honeymoon photoshoot, I love working with film photography. Digital cameras are great, but film has its own magic. It slows everything down, helping both the photographer and clients soak up the moment. Every frame is intentional. Each image carries emotion and texture.

If you’re planning your honeymoon and want to preserve it in a way that feels deeply personal and timeless, consider booking a honeymoon photoshoot on film. You’ll come away with artful photos that tell your story with warmth and authenticity.
